I got home from work today and found one of the broodies had crushed an egg. Surprisingly the inner membrane was intact and the chick was still alive....for the moment. This is the photo of the egg. VERY SAD! Into the new incubator.

Gerdie has moved outside with this years second hatch of chicks and poor Weirdo the bald wonder bird.
Blue chicks from our Splash Roo and black hens, buff chicks are Mr Roo and his girls little delights
We had three chicks display major symptoms of the vitamin deficiency happily two have survived and you can't even tell them apart from the rest. They have been banded so we can tell if necessary. We separated them from the rest, two or so weeks of twice daily medicating with poly vi sol and vitamin E and three times a day feeding of egg yolk, moistened chick starter and chopped meal worms. Holy cow I just realized how much effort we put into them no wonder I don't have a life.
